Powerful Magnetic Therapy What Does the Research Say 5 Great Resources for More Reading

October 31st, 2008

According to believers, Magnetic therapy accelerates the natural healing process, provides natural pain relief, arthritis pain relief and improves sleep without any adverse side effects.

It’s one of those divisive alternative healing options- skeptics says it’s a load of malarkey, others including celebrities like golfer Justin Leonard claim it works. And research has some positive things to say about it as well.

If you’re looking for the straight info and research, here are some good links to explore:

1. The FeelGoodStore has a database of magnetic therapy research, frequently asked questions, etc. at http://www.feelgoodstore.com/Products/Magnetics/MagneticLearningCenter.aspx

2. Therion research is a respected company in alternative medicine that takes a skeptical scientific eye to their own products and developing them. As a result more than 85% of their customers experience relief from discomfort- probably as interesting, they said

“Before we decided to start marketing, we needed to research what was already available… At first, we were confused by the results… Interviews with patients showed that while 40% were helped, as many as 20% reported that their pain actually got worse. The rest felt no difference. 12 years of research told us that something was wrong with those numbers. We were stunned. Our investigation revealed that people were using products that contained magnets that were so weak they had no therapeutic value at all. Other people were using products that had their magnets installed backwards, which has been proven to increase pain and inflammation. We knew we could do better.”

Check out their magnetic therapy learning center at http://www.therionresearch.com/learning_center_articles.html

3. For perhaps the least biased information, try Intelihealth: http://www.intelihealth.com/IH/ihtIH/WSIHW000/8513/34968/358833.html?d=dmtContent#evidence

But I caution you not to misinterpret ‘unproven uses’ as ‘disproven uses’. Just because the research hasn’t been done yet doesn’t mean magnets can’t fix it.

4. Another good research resource is to go directly to Entrez Pubmed. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed. PubMed is a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine that includes over 16 million citations from MEDLINE and other life science journals for biomedical articles back to the 1950s.

You can read the abstracts for free. The trick though is finding the right search keywords.

5. Finally, I’ve started a blog on the topic, so check there for more reading.

Glyconutrients and Joint Problems

October 27th, 2008

New research has shown that glyconutrients can help in the healing of damaged joints and muscles. These essential sugars have already been shown to help alleviate a number of physical complaints, such as high cholesterol and osteoporosis. The way in which they aid the repair of damaged muscles and joints is yet another benefit offered by the seemingly miraculous glyconutrients.

Glyconutrients are essential sugars that are required to enable the human body’s cells to recognise and communicate with each other. They help to support every cell in the body, supplying them with the information they need to function properly and in harmony with each other.

Although most people can make essential sugars themselves, it is time consuming and inefficient for our bodies to do so. Furthermore, some people who are not in the best of health, have difficulty making essential sugars. These people can often benefit by taking glyconutrients which are available in pill format, rather like a vitamin tablet.

Glyconutrients can be taken as dietary supplements to help the body heal itself. Supplementing the diet each day with glyconutrients can help in the healing and repair of damaged joints and muscles. As glyconutrients are regarded as a natural food by the body, they are readily absorbed and can be quickly utilised. People often comment about how quickly their sense of wellbeing improves after first taking glyconutrients

There is research to suggest that glyconutrients help reduce fat and cholesterol levels and retain muscle mass and bone density. New studies now show that glyconutrients also help the body repair damaged joints and muscles.

Joint problems can affect people of all ages and can occur as a result of many different factors. Sports injuries, strains and sprains, arthritis and rheumatism can impair joint mobility and result in pain and reduced mobility. Glyconutrients can play a very useful and supportive role in joint care.

Healing Power Of Hypnosis-Fact and Fiction

October 23rd, 2008

A group of young doctors were once fascinated by the presentation a hypnotherapist was giving them. At question time, one of them asked the therapist to show how the subjects were hypnotised. The hypnotherapist broke their trance by making them aware of their focused attention to what he was saying. The doctors had become oblivious of their surroundings, sounds and smells, as they were listening to him. Unknown to themselves, they were hypnotised by the words of the hypnotherapist.

Hypnosis, meaning sleep, is a state of wakefulness with focused attention and relaxation. We are in this condition of focused attention many times a day. When fully relaxed, one is fully aware of and in control of all the faculties. In other words, what the person wants to happen, happens.

This tool, when used in therapy, enables a person to heal himself or herself, the therapist acting as a facilitator. It becomes easy to understand then, that with hypnotherapy a person can learn to heal oneself, having more control over one’s life. Even the best hypnotherapist can not help an uncooperative subject, as, all hypnosis is self hypnosis.

Stress in present day life is the cause of many of the physical, psychosexual and psychological problems. Our upbringing and childhood experiences leave indelible imprints on our personalities. Without our realisation, we behave, think, make crucial decisions under the influence of such experiences. If our experiences in childhood are pleasant and secure, our behaviour, thought processes and decisions take us forward in life. Many times, unhappy, insecure upbringing and experiences, especially, in our childhood, continue to hold us back from moving ahead in life. Sometimes, adverse life experiences that would cause anger, frustration, jealousy, anxiety, hatred that remain suppressed, start affecting our quality of life. Unknowingly, people start taking wrong decisions leading to a deterioration in their life quality. People with such experiences can get addicted to drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex or anything else that they fancy. Many times, people with such difficulties are referred to the psychiatric services. But many of them can also be helped with hypnotherapy.

Sometimes people develop stress and high blood pressure as a result of one or many adverse life experiences. Such people are rarely seen by psychiatrists or therapists, as, they do not exhibit clear cut psychiatric symptoms. These people may continue to get antihypertensive medication for the rest of their lives. On other occasions some people develop Irritable Bowel Syndrome without knowing that their strict upbringing might be playing a role in their illnesses. They may continue to attend medical services for a long, long time. These cases benefit more from hypnotherapy than medication. Other conditions that benefit from hypnotherapy are skin disorders, asthma, migraine, nocturnal enuresis, anxiety, panic & phobic disorders of all kinds, post traumatic stress disorder, bereavement, some depressive conditions, alcohol and drug abuse, habit disorders, sleep disorders, sexual disorders, relationship difficulties, stammering and stuttering.

Hypnotherapy got approval from American Psychiatric Association 40 years ago. There are more than 10,000 practising hypnotherapist in the US. In Europe, at this moment, there is limited control over the quality of service hypnotherapists are providing. One of the reasons is that very few of the practitioners come from the field of medicine. Medical practitioners, who use hypnosis, have seen a reduction in their drug bill; with an improvement in the self esteem of their patients. These doctors do realise that some medical solutions are available without prescribing medication.

Pradeep K Chadha is a psychiatrist, who has also trained in hypnosis. He has developed innovative methods to treat mental health conditions with meditation and imagery. He is the author of The Stress Barrier-Nature’s Way To Overcoming Stress. He is based in Dublin, Ireland. His website address is :http://www.drpkchadha.com
